New Jersey: Executive Order Ordered Into Effect to Protect Trans Health
New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy signed an executive order establishing New Jersey as a “safe haven” for transgender healthcare. This order was implemented in an attempt to counteract New Jersey State Senator Ed Durr’s proposed anti-trans healthcare bill, which would prohibit minors from receiving gender affirming healthcare.

Michigan: Anti-Hate Speech Bill has Passed the State House
The Michigan House Bill 4474 has passed the state House. This bill is part of legislation replacing Michigan’s existing Ethnic Intimidation Act, and it would make it a hate crime to cause someone to “feel terrorized, frightened, or threatened.” Additionally, this bill includes “sexual orientation” and “gender identity or expression” as being classes which are protected against intimidation. Additionally, this bill would make violators guilty of a felony which could be punishable by up to five years in prison as well as a fine of $10,000.

NY Legislation Introduced to Pull Funding from Colleges Promoting Antisemitism
Media outlets indicated that Republican Congressman Mike Lawler, R-N.Y. is expected to introduce legislation that will prohibit universities that “authorize” antisemitic events on their campuses from participating in student loan and grant programs. This legislation, titled the ‘‘Stop Antisemitism on College Campuses Act’’ was proposed after CUNY Law School’s commencement speech which involved student Fatima Mousa Mohammed accusing Israel of murder, and asking students to participate in a “revolution” against Zionism, capitalism and racism.

Hate Crime Ordinance Passed in Gillette, Wyoming
The ordinance sets out punishments for crimes committed due to bias, hate and discrimination. Under the ordinance, prohibited behavior includes “injuring, threatening to injure or inciting violence against another person or their property based on race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, ethnicity, national origin, ancestry or disability.”
