South Carolina: Legislation to Combat Hate Crime Proposed

Legislations to combat hate crimes were proposed in Florence, South Carolina. These laws will introduce enhanced penalties for people who have been convicted of violent crimes, or who have been targeted based on their religion, race, sexual orientation, gender, nationality or disability. Incidents related to hate intimidation would be punishable by up to $500 in fines, or 30 days in jail.
